Data Downloads

 One of the principal difficulties of publishing the results of large scale remote sensing projects is the complexity of the imagery that is generated by analysis.  Although many of the results from the NSPP project have been reproduced in colour in the final publication it is accepted that this is still not entirely satisfactory and that these illustrations lacks an adequate spatial context.  For this reason selected data layers have been provided here as downloads which can be opened within Google Earth.

NSPP terrain and feature data shown in Google Earth

The NSPP data is provided in Google Earth compatible format (KMZ) and can be downloaded via the links below this introductory section.  If you are familiar with Google Earth or have it installed already, scroll to the bottom of the page.    Full information on downloading, installing and using the Google Earth viewer can be found at http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html. If your computer specifications do not meet the specifications below or if the data does not display properly it may be that you require an earlier version of Google Earth.  Google Earth 3 can be downloaded at http://earth.google.com/download-earth3.html

Google Earth 4 requires the following minimum specification for use;

         Operating System: Windows 2000 or Windows XP

         CPU: Pentium 3, 500Mhz

         System Memory (RAM): 128MB

         Hard Disk: 400MB free space

         Network Speed: 128 Kbits/sec

         Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 16MB of VRAM

         Screen: 1024x768, "16-bit High Colour"

 However, the recommended specification is;

         Operating System: Windows XP

         CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz+ or AMD 2400xp+

         System Memory (RAM): 512MB RAM

         Hard Disk: 2GB free space

         Network Speed: 768 Kbits/sec

         Graphics Card: 3D-capable with 32MB of VRAM

         Screen: 1280x1024, "32-bit True Color" screen

Performance will vary according to the configuration of individual computers and graphic cards. Older machines or computers with a lower specification may be slow to draw images.  Severe visual problems may be caused by issues with the installed graphic drivers or choice of graphic mode.  See the Google support page at http://earth.google.com/support/ for advice on graphic cards.

Google Earth must be installed before opening the NSPP data files.

Data Links

To download the data files simply click on the appropriate hyperlink and choose to save the file to a selected local directory. If the file is opened and the Google Earth viewer has been installed the data will be displayed within its correct Lat/Long position.
